The Power and Precision of the Word

Scripture
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Reflection
The Word of God is the source of our faith and ability to live a life that is pleasing to God. Everything we need to navigate the issues of life and defeat the devil is found in the Word. So, it is critical for us to digest the Word for nourishment, store the Word for faith, activate the Word for strength and speak the Word for victory. When Jesus was in one of His weakest moments following forty days of prayer and fasting in the wilderness, He was immediately tempted of Satan three times.  His response to each temptation was “For it is written.” Jesus spoke the Word in each instance and defeated Satan. The Word of God is our most powerful offensive weapon in our daily spiritual battle against the devil and the forces of darkness that try to defeat us.

The Hebrew writer declared that the Word of God is living and active in accomplishing God’s purposes. And it is sharper than any two-edged sword enabling it to cut to the soul to reveal the truth of our spiritual condition. And it’s precision pierces between soul and spirit and joints and marrow, the deepest areas of the soul. It judges between the thoughts and intentions of the heart revealing the motives and intentions. Now that’s power!

Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your Word. Teach me to understand and operate in the power of your Word. As Your Word reveals my spiritual condition, I will confess and repent of my sins so that You find me acceptable for Your use. In Jesus’ name– Amen.
