Where are the True Believers?

Romans 10:9 Devotional – Confess and Believe – October 2, 2020

Transforming Truth from God’s Word

Several years ago a good friend raised the question in a conversation, “where are the True Believers?” His question led to a lengthy discussion about who true believers in Jesus Christ really are, their characteristics and the evidence that makes them True Believers. The Bible describes a True Believer is one who has received the truth that Jesus Christ is the Son of God into their hearts, resulting in salvation (the forgiveness of sin) and eternal life. The simple truths of salvation and characteristics of a True Believer are shared here as a reminder and confirmation for each of us.

  1. A True Believer receives conviction from the Holy Spirit; recognizes they are a sinner and receives and responds to the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and is saved by it. (1 Corinthians 15: 1)
  2. A True Believer receives salvation (forgiveness of sin) by verbally confessing that Jesus is Lord and believing in the heart that God raised Him from the dead. (Romans 10:9-10)
  3. A True Believer receives everlasting life by believing in Jesus death and resurrection by faith. (John 3:16-17)
  4. A True Believer hears the Gospel and responds by having faith in Jesus as the Savior. Salvation is a gift from God, received by God’s grace to a person. (Romans 10:7) (Ephesians 2:8-9)
  5. A True Believer lives by faith in the resurrected Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:13-14)
  6. A True Believer becomes a follower of Jesus Christ and commits to live as Jesus did and as He taught. (1 John 2:6)
  7. A True Believer has the Holy Spirit living inside. (Romans 8:9,16)
  8. A True Believer shows evidence of his or her faith in Jesus Christ by making the effort to live for Christ each day. (2 Corinthians 5:17, James 2: 18)
  9. A True Believer treats people as Jesus treated people. (Mark 12:31)

Romans 10:9-10

“that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

A Psalm for Today

Psalm 116:4

Then I called upon the name of the Lord:

“O Lord, I implore You, deliver my soul!”

God’s Promises for Today

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,  not of works, lest anyone should boast.
