Jesus, The Eternal and Living Word
Scripture
John 1:1, 14
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Reflection
John begins his book by introducing Jesus as the eternal Word (Logos) who existed with God before the beginning and is co-creator of the heavens and the earth with God. Through His divine nature as the Son of God, He is the architect of all creation, yet He became flesh to bring life, light and salvation into a dark world. In other words, He is fully God and fully man. He is the fullness of the Father, the Son and The Holy Spirit bodily. God sent His only begotten into the world as man-child born of a virgin, conceived of the Holy Spirit. And John attests to his humanity through providing evidence that he, the disciples and many other personally spent time with Jesus and witness His glory through the Word that He lived and ministered. John experienced the glory of Jesus, the only begotten of the Father who was filled with grace and truth. Jesus is the Gospel personified! Glory to His name!
One of the wonderful things about receiving Jesus in your heart and living for Him is that He is the eternal and living Word living inside of you. As a result, you are a new creature and become an agent of change for every person that God allows you to meet. You are a bearer of the Word!
Prayer
Lord Jesus, You are the eternal and living Word. Thank you for living in me and continuously depositing Your Word in my heart and transforming my life into Your image. Allow me to bear witness to others about your Life-changing power to save and give everlasting life. Amen.
