But let justice run down like water,
And righteousness like a mighty stream.
Reflection
As we pause to honor and reflection on the life and legacy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., his mandate from God to pursue justice, righteousness and equality for oppressed people is clear. In his immortal “I Have a Dream” speech deliver August 28, 1963, he quoted this passage as a charge to God’s people to avoid the hypocrisy of religious worship that is void of pursuing social justice for the oppressed and righteousness for the poor. Also, we must challenge and defeat moral corruption and spiritual wickedness in high places. God demands true worship from His people. Therefore, we are called to carry out these God given mandates of justice and righteousness in our daily service to Him as our Christian duty and moral responsibility.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I receive your charge to “let justice run down like water, And righteousness like a mighty stream” in my walk and witness for You. Give me the courage to join with brothers and sisters in Christ to take a stand for what is true and right according to Your Word. I desire to lift the poor and oppressed by meeting unmet needs with the love of Christ. In Jesus name Amen.
We are called as Christians to stand on God’s Word and promises. Amen
